Naturally in between all of the great sights we visited while in DC, we needed to take a break and check out some of the great places to eat and drink in the city. We were only there for a few days so clearly we have a lot more to explore on our next trip, but these were some of our favorites this time around.
A few of us had the day off on Monday so some of the Team got together to finish packing up the rest of the beer and swag to send out to our Gang Bang targets. Some lucky sons of bitches are going to be receiving these bad boys sometime next week, with another box of fresh IPAs coming along a week before their bang date next month.
Visiting Washington DC has always been on our radar but until recently has only been something we’ve driven through on the way to or from our yearly trips to Florida. Each pass through is usually accompanied with some bewilderment of the monuments that we can see from the road, with some longing to actually visit them someday and spend a weekend doing some sightseeing and museum hopping. When one of Elise’s favorite artists was performing at the newly revitalized Lincoln Theater on Valentine’s Day, it gave us the opportunity to make such a trip happen.
Thursday night was the latest of Jared Kingsley of Remarkable Liquids’ beer dinners, this time at McGreivey’s in Waterford, featuring the beers from Dark Horse Brewing Company. Dark Horse, out of Marshall, MI, is known in the craft beer circles for their citrusy IPAs and big, roasty stouts. Oh, and turning down having their beer featured in a Nickleback video because “It’s shit rock and roll that doesn’t deserve to be on the radio”. Just awesome.
I’m not one to reblog things around here, but you gotta check out dontdrinkbeer taking on Tom ‘Taint’ Tarry after his comments here on FujOnTap earlier this week. Priceless.

If I have learned one thing recently, Tom Tarry will kick your nutsack inside out and turn it into a nice set of inverted ovaries if you attempt to talk shit on any of his beer events. Last week, FujonTap posted a satirical post calling out shitty beerfests:
In the original post, he used a photo that is ultra-copyrighted, def. not subject to fair use, completely private jpeg that wasn’t even available for viewing by everyone on the entire fucking internet. Except it was. Despite this, Tom Tarry turned off his Scandal marathon and hit the streets for some serious n0x litigation pumps and posted this:OH SHIT THE MIC HAS BEEN DROPPED…

A side note: While I love beer traveling for New England craft beer and beyond, I feel like there could be better coverage of craft beer in the Capital District and Upstate New York. I’ve decided in 2014 to do my part to advocate beer in Upstate NY, cover more local events, and try to speak to current discussions in the beer world from the perspective of someone living in the Capital District, rather than someone who can do a 17 hour long beer run on a moment’s notice. I’m floating around the idea of a new website. Stay tuned.
RateBeer released their annual “Top Beers in the World” list today and sadly, New York does not have any representation. (Evil Twin has moved their head office to Brooklyn, NY, but until they start contracting their beer here I cannot consider them a New York Brewery.) Concerned by this, I had to take a look back to the past lists to see which, if any, New York beers have appeared on this list.
