Bourbon Barrel Stout – Bluegrass Brewing Company
– This beer was mediocre at best. If there was such a thing as artificial bourbon barrel flavor (maybe there is?) they used it in this beer. Honestly the carbonation and appearance isn’t far off from root beer, with a rather lively head with large bubbles that dissipate quickly, leaving a ring of cream colored foam on the outside edge and one small island of foam in the center. The aroma is actually pretty promising with with some chocolate and bourbon notes, but the taste immediately lets you down. Soda-like sweetness in the taste as well, and almost missing all stout character, with an overbearing bourbon barrel flavor. Mouthfeel is thin, watery, and lacking carbonation. Overall, possibly the worst bourbon-barrel aged beer I’ve ever had.
