Upcoming Events for March/April

Haven’t done one of these in a while and March is almost over but there’s a lot of cool events coming up in the Capital Region and the rest of the Northeast.

NERAX @ Somerville American Legion Hall Post 388 | March 20th-23rd

Cask beer loves should already know this but NERAX starts today and goes through the rest of the weekend. Tickets are reasonably priced and the $2-3 for 4 oz pours should keep the tickers happy.

The Brawl at the Beer Hall: Southern Tier VS Oskar Blues @ The City Beer Hall | March 21st

I really like these types of events. We don’t have have enough distribution in our area to do a full on tap takeover of most breweries available here, and even with the ones who do, some of the beer always ends up sitting around for weeks. Doing this type of “VS” battles allows a bar to mix it up and keep things fresh, too. I’m still a self proclaimed Oskar Blues fanboy even though we only get their core beers here, and Southern Tier’s IPAs and BlackWater Series will always have a special place in my heart. If anything like the OB’s Chardonnay Barrel-Aged Mama’s Little Yellow Pils we had at Henry Street or STBC’s Bourbon Barrel-Aged Backburner and I’ll be there like stink on shit. City Beer Hall hasn’t announced a tap list yet but I have a tweet out to them and I’ll keep you posted.

House Barrel-Aged Whiskey Premiere @ Gleason’s Peekskill | March 21st

This is actually pretty cool. The folks at Gleason’s took some of Buffalo Trace’s 125 Proof White Dog Rye, cut it to 90 proof, and aged it four and a half months in their own charred 5 liter barrel. I think it’s a really great way to offer something unique to their patrons that only costs the initial investment of the barrel, spirits and some time.

Cider Night @ The Ruck | March 22nd

Ciders from Thistly Cross, JK Scumpys, Crispin, Docs, and even an Original Sin Hard Cider Randalled through Cinnamon and Cloves. Cider fans need to check it out.

Hudson Valley Beer and Cheese Fest @ Keegan Ales | March 24th

Hudson Valley Beers from Keegan Ales, Crossroads, Chatham brewing, Rushing Duck, Newburgh Brewing Co., Peekskill, Sloop, Doc’s Ciders, C.H.Evans (the Pump Station), Tuthilltown Distillery, & more meet Hudson Valley Cheeses brought to you by Chef Marcus Guiliano of Aroma Thyme Bistro. What more can you ask for?

“Nothing Under 18” Scotch Dinner @ MezzaNotte | March 26th

Looks like another great dinner to benefit LLS lined up from Michelle Hines Abram. 18+ year old Macallan & Glenlivet and a killer menu from some of the area’s best chefs to boot.

Sierra Nevada Tap Event @ The Ruck | March 29th

The Ruck has some hard to find SN beers on like Barrel Aged Ovila Quad and Whiskey Barrel Aged 30th Anniversary Bigfoot, along with a couple of vintages of regular Bigfoot, Narwhal, Life and Limb, and a few of their regular offerings. A must for the discerning craft beer nerd.

My Big Fat Gypsy Tap Take Over @ The Lionheart Pub | April 4th

Some best beers from Stillwater Artisanal and Evil Twin at The Lionheart with the guys from Remarkable Liquids on hand. The only five words you need to know: Imperial. Biscotti. Break. On. Tap.

Drink Craft Beer’s Springfest w/ Jack’s Abbey Brewing @ The Revere Hotel Boston Common | April 5th-6th

75 hop-forward beers to celebrate drinking in the Spring from 25 of New England’s best breweries. The VIP event has another 25 beers that are being made, altered or conditioned specifically for this event. Check out the lineup, it’s pretty redonkulous.

Founders Breakfast / Stoutfest @ Armby Abbey | April 13th-14th

Alec killing it again with the rarest and highest rated stouts under one roof. I’m shooting for going to the Founders Breakfast this year but I know tickets will be hard to come by. Regardless, Stoutfest may be one of your last chances to get your hands on Founders CBS since they haven’t made it this year and haven’t mentioned making it again. Check out pics from last years event here.

Lawson’s Finest Liquids 5th Anniversary Celebration @ The Valley Players Theater | April  20th

Sean Lawson celebrating 5 years of brewing killer beers in Warren, VT with live music, bottle sales, draft beer and tacos from Mad Taco. A new double IPA, Peril, will be released that day along side a sessionable Spring Fever IPA at 3.5% ABV.  Tickets are available at Mad Taco in Waitsfield and The Warren Store only.

TAP NY @ Hunter Mountain | April 27th

The largest craft beer and food event in New York State with 85 NYS breweries, some 200 beers, all you can eat food and shh, don’t tell anyone: CORNDOGS. Check out pictures from last year’s TAP NY here.
