Thursday marked the the Anniversary of the opening of The Bier Abbey and was celebrated with a bunch of laughs, great food, and a pretty amazing lineup of beers. Joining the celebration was the crew from Remarkable Liquids (who are coming up on their anniversary this month) as well as Brian Ewing from 12 Percent imports and Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø of Evil Twin Brewing. I had a lot of fun trying to capture all of the shenanigans that night, let’s check out the pics!
This is one of the best tap lists I’ve seen in the Capital Region. I left that night without trying half of the beers I would have liked to, hopefully a few of those are still on when I get in this week.
The night kicked off with pitchers of Tilquin Gueuze and the new Dicicco’s version of Evil Twin’s Imperial Biscotti Break with chiles and hazelnut added.
This is Spencer’s angry face.
Brian looking lovingly into Jeremy’s eyes.
I believe this man is about to destroy some pigs.
And then someone broke out Brute. And this happened:
Geof and Jeppe.
And Geof’s toenails.
This was clearly not George’s fault.
Horal’s Oude Geuze Mega Blend is a blend of geuze from the lambic makers in the High Council for Artisanal Lambic beer, and is bottled for their yearly Tour De Geuze, where the lambic brewers and geuze blenders open their doors to the public and encourage tour goers to visit each participating spot. Something ridiculous like two cases made it to New York so it was nice to be able to try this special beer while toasting the anniversary of The Abbey.
Pig Destroyer Jon and Chad from Remarkable.
Both Brian and George made speeches to speak to what The Bier Abbey and Remarkable has been able to accomplish in the past year.
Brian presumably talking about how big his cojones are.
Cheers!
Jeppe and Chad. I got to spend some time chatting with Jeppe about the previous week’s The Festival in Portland, a few of the trips he has planned, and Tørst, his recently open bar in Brooklyn (where he has since moved from Denmark). He is truly offering something different down there and I can’t wait to make the trip down there this fall.
Deep conversation with Mike.
The signature Spencer laugh.
Some Teddy’s were cracked into of course, among countless other bottles throughout the night.
My first time with an Allagash Coolship beer. Absolutely phenomenal.
I was happy to share this with everyone, my first bottle from this year’s trip to Hunahpu Day (I swear I’ll get pics up from Florida eventually). This is still one of my favorite beers.
Uh oh. Someone’s in trouble.
One of many splits Thursday night.
Brian, Jared and Jeppe.
And another with Irv swapped in.
A hilarious GIF of Jeppe making sure the Dogfish Logo was properly displayed in the last pic.
The last beer of the night (for me at least). What’s a party without a little Hill Farmstead?
The guys goofin’ off a little bit.
Seriously, just watch Jon’s face on this GIF for a few loops. Priceless.
And one last one with me and the rest of the guys cheesin’ it up for the camera.
This was an amazing night with great beers and even more amazing company. The Bier Abbey, Remarkable Liquids, 12 Percent, and Evil Twin all killed it in the past year, and I can’t wait to see what each brings in the next.
I was looking at the first image thinking “that one dude looks like Mikkel”. Oh, it’s just Jeppe.
Same thing, haha.
