Dinner at Mingle | Albany, NY

Mingle in DelSo has been on my radar for a while now, but when Elise wanted to go out to dinner with friends a couple of weeks ago, I took the opportunity to make a reservation and we finally got a chance to check it out.

Hop Harvest Party at The City Beer Hall

— Man, this was a good time and I’m really disappointed that I had to leave so early. Unfortunately, I had this, 30 Days to Dogfish Head Night AND a tasting at Chez Fuj to all make happen in all night.

Lotta great local brews were there that night, including my locals faves Chatham Brewing and Crossroads Brewing. I grabbed some Dr. Loomis Pumpkin Ale from Crossroads, but not before getting some of Chatham’s Hop Crop IPA through what I can only imagine is the area’s first Hop Rocket. These things are badass:

Got to taste a few other beers with the owner of City Beer Hall and Jeremy of Remarkable Liquids, chat up Matt from Chatham and Russ from the Homebrew Emporium for a while and bullshit with the guys from Albany Distilling Company. The visit was short, but a good one. Can’t wait until their next event like this.

Pre-Dark Knight Rises Grub at Cask and Rasher

Not wanting to eat mall food, but still wanting to grab something to eat between our drive from Albany to The Dark Knight Rises at the IMAX theater at the Palisades Mall, The Cask and Rasher in Coxsackie was a natural choice. Some quick perogies, potato skins and sandwiches later, with a Crossroads Outrage IPA to wash it down and we were on our way. (No Satan Wing this time.)

DKR was fucking amazing, btw.

Athens, NY: Brews and Chow at Crossroads Brewing Co. [Road Trip]

OK, so it wasn’t much of a road trip. We’d usually head down to the Palisades Mall to nerd it up for the latest IMAX blockbuster and get some of the delicious food and beers from the Hudson Valley’s best breweries and pubs. Last weekend’s Avengers release wasn’t available at Palisades but that didn’t stop us from heading down south a little bit to grab some brews from Crossroads Brewing Company before our show.

I posted on their wall earlier in the week to check out the grub situation. I knew they had a food truck on Friday and Saturday nights but I didn’t think it was going to be serving for lunch on Saturday. The truck wasn’t going to be operating, but they said to bring in our own food or to order in, and couldn’t have been more helpful and hospitable in their response.

We bellied up to the bar and got our first round. Having had the Outrage IPA multiple times before, I decided on the Black Rock Stout for its “espresso & chocolate” description. Pitch black in color with a ton of roasted malts and a bit of coffee in the nose which carried over into the taste and ends with noticeable unsweetened chocolate. This was a great beer and something I’m looking to get a growler of sometime soon.

I grabbed an Outrage IPA for the second round as headed for a brew tour with their head brewer Hutch Kugeman. I’ve met him before when Crossroads first started showing up in our area when they had a Meet the Brewer event at Dino BBQ, and then at a few subsequent beer fests in the past. Pretty cool guy who loves beer and doesn’t mind a beer enthusiast like myself yapping his ear off about beer for a while.

Once the non-beer nerds had enough of beer talk we headed back to the bar just in time for grub to be delivered right to my barstool. Can’t complain about that service. We got a couple of pizzas and wings from a local joint while I ordered a flight so we could taste all of the other beers we weren’t going to be able to try before heading back to Albany for our movie.

Overall Crossroads is an awesome place to sit down for a few hours and grab a pint (or five). It was a little dead in there for a Saturday afternoon but once the kitchen opens I’m sure that will change. The weekends are filling up pretty quick this summer but hopefully I’ll be able to take Elise back here for some grub and some live tunes sometime soon.

As always a few more pics can be found here.
