Peck's Arcade

Peck’s Arcade Italian-Grandma Dinner

Before the new year the crew at Peck’s Arcade held another popup, this time a dinner in the style of your “Italian Grandma” rather than the noodle shop popups they have done in the past. The event was held a few times over the holidays and all of the classics were there, such as lasagna, homemade pasta, parm dishes and meatballs. Tables were decked out in iconic red and white checked tablecloths and a few Italian inspired cocktails were offered along with Italian and Italian-American wine. Italian-American cuisine is not something I go out for too often since I have a pretty good grasp of it at home, but it’s always nice to sit back, relax and let Chef Nick and his team do the cooking while sitting at the Chef’s Counter for a little entertainment for the evening. Let’s take a look:

Soft Opening at The Shop | Troy, NY

The Shop Troy

I had the opportunity to stop into The Shop during their soft opening this week with JVS and Kevin from Rare Form. The owner, Kevin Blodgett, sat down with us for a beer and while we shared some plates and even Nick from The Confectionary hung out for a few rounds as well. This was one of those unexpected, innocent Monday nights that snowballed into a ridiculously good time. Let’s take a quick look at the pics.

Troy Pig Out Competition
I’ve been meaning to head to this for the past couple of years but scheduling conflicts have always kept me away. Luckily Sunday I had the chance to head down to Riverfront Park to check out this area’s biggest celebration of swine: the Annual Pig Out.

Sneak Peek at Rare Form Brewing Company | Troy, NY

Rare Form Brewing Company
Last night a few of us from The Bier Abbey had the opportunity to stop down the Capital Region’s newest brewery, Rare Form Brewing Company, meet owners Kevin Mullen and Jenny Kemp, check out the new space, and of course try some beers they had on tap. It was a breath of fresh air, for both the continuation of the improvement of Troy, but also for the craft beer scene in the Upstate New York.

Big Brew 2014 at Homebrew Emporium

Been slacking on posts around here lately so wanted to get out a couple of galleries I’ve been meaning to share for friends. First one comes from Homebrew Emporium’s Big Brew for National Homebrew Day, an annual event can drive they do for the local Food Bank in conjunction with the American Homebrewers Association. Homebrewers bring cans of food and a $10 donation and in return they get an ingredient kit to make each year’s beer on site, this one being the Black Dog Lager Schwarzbier, a 2013 National Homebrew Competition gold medal-winning recipe.

I’ve shared the entire album on the Homebrew Emporium’s Facebook Page. Make sure to take a look!

Enjoy Troy.

Took a little walk around Troy on Saturday to check out some of the new statues that have popped up around the city as part of the Uncle Sam Project as well as grabbing breakfast and doing a little shopping at the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. Check it out!
